BTC Wires: The recent in line to jump on the Blockchain bandwagon is the Japanese Tech Giant Sony. They have recently filed two patents at the United States Patent and Trademark Office related to blockchain technology. Sony has their headquarters in Kōnan, Minato, Tokyo and has a wide spectrum of businesses including consumer and professional electronics, gaming, entertainment and financial services
In the past, Sony was looking to utilize blockchain technology for the purpose of storing digital rights data. To that end, they had filed a patent in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment for Digital Rights Management Solutions that ensures interoperability, especially in media forms like movies. Apart from that, Sony has been also looking at ways to integrate the technology in systems that would help authenticate user data and manage education data. To that end, they had filed a patent in last November that could be “used to store information such as education experiences, certificates and so on of a user.”
The two recent patents that have been filed on the 2nd of August, are named “Electronic Node and Method for Maintaining a Distributed Ledger” and “Device and System.” The application clearly states that that the first system is
“an electronic device for maintaining a distributed ledger…comprising circuitry configured to perform a mining process of a block to be added to the distributed ledger, wherein the mining process includes compressing data of the block to be added to the distributed ledger.”
The second patent is based on a device that would provide access to a distributed ledger and a pertinent system for maintaining a distributed ledger. It too has a dual aspect; one that pertains to the access to the distributed ledger and one that would assist in maintaining that ledger.
Sony is currently working on multiple projects relating to blockchain technology. It would be interesting to see what they do in the near future with this technology.
