World’s Leading Browser Adds Ethereum-Based Crypto Wallet and Dapp Explorer

Norwegian company Opera Software AS has announced the launch of its Blockchain-based web browser which comes with an Ethereum wallet on the Android platform. The statement released by the company stated that the updated browser app supports Web 3, and it is ready for download on the Google Play Store.

According to Opera, the new app provides users with a seamless Web 3 experience. It also provides with a means to transform digital currencies from mere speculative vehicles to real-world transactions in everyday use.

The company believes that the updated app comes as a breath of fresh air in the market as users can seamlessly access Web 3 services as well as use digital currencies on the same platform- something which was previously impossible.

Opera has said that they chose Ethereum owing to its large community of decentralized application developers. The company is of the view that support to the Ethereum Web3API will make interactions with decentralized apps easier for users. In the announcement, Opera has also revealed that in the future the wallet will extend support to more Blockchain networks and cryptocurrencies.

Joseph Lubin, the Founder of ConsenSys and Co-Founder of Ethereum, elaborated on the new launch:

“It’s a significant step for one of the world’s leading browsers to add an Ethereum-based crypto wallet and Dapp explorer, and speaks to Opera’s innovative roots and commitment to embracing next generation technology. We see this as an important moment in improving Dapp accessibility, opening Web3 to mainstream audiences, and encouraging developers to build on Ethereum.”

Web 3 is next-gen web technology. The term Web 3  is also used as an umbrella term for a number of emerging technologies that intersect Blockchain, digital currencies, and distributed ledgers. Combined together these technologies expand the capabilities of the web to more applications. As per Opera, the web of today will become the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow.
