The revolutionary blockchain technology is constantly finding its roots to bring changes in wider sectors as the technology is being broadly accepted. The world, especially, the speculators seem to accept the technology that will shape an entirely new method of transaction that provides security and transparency. In the recent news Opera, a web browser for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems developed by Norwegian company Opera Software AS has joined hands with blockchain advisory and financial services firm Ledger Capital to explore possible blockchain applications. Opera was founded in 1995 in Norway. In 2007 the company generated operating revenue of $128.9 million and net income of $6.1 million, while its user base amounted to 322 million people worldwide in the first quarter of 2018.
According to the announcement, both the companies are looking to investigate applications and use cases of blockchain and how the technology can be deployed within Opera products and its ecosystem. Ledger Capital is financial services and investment firm focused on digital assets and blockchain enablement of the real economy.
Opera, this month, launched a “Labs” special edition of its desktop browser with the built-in crypto wallet where the new edition will enable users to authenticate Web 3.0 and decentralized application (DApp) transactions made on their computer using their Android phone.
Opera also became the first major web browser that included a built-in crypto wallet. Throwing light on this, Product Lead of Opera’s crypto wallet, Charles Hamel said, “paying with the crypto wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone … This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike.”
In response to the cryptojacking malware, last month, Firefox announced it will block cryptojacking malware in its future versions. Opera also included anti-crypto mining in their integrated ad-blocker for its desktop browser and later to its mobile browser as well. Opera filed for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the U.S., looking to raise up to $115 million in June 2018.
