The new ChatGPT-enabled beta capability will be tested for around three months in over 900,000 Mercedes vehicles throughout the United States.
Mercedes-Benz is incorporating artificial intelligence into more than 900,000 vehicles as part of a new trial of a voice assistant system powered by ChatGPT.
The company declared on June 16 that owners of any vehicle with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) interface, which presently accounts for more than 900,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States, are now able to utilise the optional beta function.
By saying, “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta programme,” while seated in their vehicle, Mercedes drivers can sign up for the new AI-powered voice assistant. As an alternative, consumers can sign up through the “me” application provided by the automakers.
The manufacturer, a German company, stated that ChatGPT will “complement” its current voice control feature by enhancing its current capabilities:
ChatGPT uses a huge language model to significantly improve natural language understanding and broaden the topics to which it may answer, in contrast to most voice assistants that are restricted to predefined tasks and responses.
Users will be able to ask the Voice Assistant questions that are either relevant to or irrelevant to the driving experience using the ChatGPT connection, and the chatbot will supposedly be able to respond with “comprehensive answers.”
Any voice command data that the voice assistant gathers will be anonymised and analyzed, the company stated, and then saved in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud system.
Although this is the automaker’s most recent venture into artificial intelligence, Mercedes-Benz has been working on blockchain-related projects for a while.
The automaker collaborated with a number of nonfungible token (NFT) artists in January 2022 to commemorate the G-Class series model. In July 2020, the company started utilizing Ocean Protocol’s blockchain to gather various user data.
The company also introduced its own cryptocurrency in March 2018 to encourage environmentally friendly driving.
