Nothing that goes on in the market, ever remains a secret for too long. It looks like Samsung too has been unable to hide their attempts, at securing trademarks related to Blockchain. The technology giant has filed for 3 blockchain trademarks in the European Union.

The three trademarks are called ‘Blockchain Keystore’, ‘Blockchain key box’ and ‘Blockchain Core’. They have all been filed under the trademark category of ‘Smartphones: Software applications for use with mobile devices; Computer software platforms; Application.”
These applications suggest that the company is looking to offer crypto custody services on smartphones. Post the release of HTC’s Exodus 1 and Sirin Labs’ FINNEY, it won’t be a stretch to assume that Samsung might be looking to soon launch their own ‘blockchain smartphone’.
The company may be looking to offer either a separate hardware wallet for crypto storage, or one that’s built into its future devices. They have already assured their users that they have the best possible technology that would guarantee maximum security for storing cryptocurrency.

Samsung’s upcoming model is Galaxy S10. We are however still unaware if these crypto related services will be offered in that model or not.
The fact that Samsung, being a popular and mainstream brand is looking into blockchain and crypto related devlopments, signals that despite the current lows of the crypto market, it has still not been completely disregarded. Major companies still feel blockchain and cryptocurrency is a major asset which will help their growth.
However, a slight twist in the story is that on being reached out to by major news outlets on the question of whether or not the South Korean giant is building its own blockchain based phone, the company replied,
“unfortunately we are unable to provide any information as the below is rumor and speculation.”
Notice how they have not clearly denied the speculation regarding them building a blockchain based phone. However, they seem to disregarded the initial questions being directed towards them. Now only time will tell if the world is going to witness a blockchain based smartphone from Samsung.
