Forbes’ list of self made billionaires was released just yesterday, and while people can’t stop talking about Kylie Jenner who topped the list, there is one person on that list that the crypto market ought to rejoice for.
Jihan Wu and Micree Zhan, founders of Bitmain, are the only crypto related businessmen who made it to the list of self made billionaires. Amidst the current bearish conditions in the market, it gives the industry a chance to celebrate two of their own, who made it to the list.
Bitmain is currently not doing as well as you would expect it to. Word on the street is, that it’s crypto holdings are down over 90%. Despite that, it is refreshing to see that the two founders ultimately made it to the list.
This was the first time that Wu and Zhan were included in the list as self-made billionaires. For those wondering, Bitmain is a cryptocurrency mining venture and the source of wealth for these two gentlemen are cryptocurrency mining chips.
Forbes states that as per February 8th, Wu has $1.5 billion of fortune. He is included in the under 40 category and his rank is at #1511.
Micree Zhan, is ranked slightly higher than his fellow founder. He is at #838 with $2.7 billion of fortune. However, he does not fall in the under 40 category.
Zhan has previously featured on Forbes’ 2018 China Rich List, so it is not his first time on a Forbes list, unlike Wu.
What’s surprising is that there is not other crypto businessman on that list, apart from these two. A lot of giants from the tech industry feature prominently on the list, but none are exclusively from a crypto business.
Bitmain has recently been facing some difficult challenges and there is a lot of bad press regarding the venture. So this list possibly comes at a time when the founder’s needed to hear some good news desperately.
