As per a press release published on November 5, 2018, one of the “Big Four” accounting organizations and the largest professional services network- Deloitte is now collaborating with the identity management firm Attest Inc. for the development of virtual identity system based on the Blockchain.Attest is a Chicago based firm that provides a shared identity platform to facilitate transactions for users. The platforms enables governmental users to provide identity services to the citizens.
The press release states that the partnership between Deloitte and Attest will help in the creation of a digital identity product for government compliant identifiers. Purportedly this platform will be used by the clients of the multinational firm Deloitte. Attest Wallet, the first product, is a crypto secured identity storage wallet which is similar to a digital currency wallet. This wallet will allow users to store their virtual identification documents on a single platform and will provide them with the provision to control their data and access it whenever they want.
The second product is called he Attest Enterprise. It is built with two application programming interfaces and it allows users to authenticate their identity. That’s not all, it also allows users to authorize intermediaries or third parties to manage their data on the behalf of the user. The Managing Director at Deloitte Consulting LLP was quoted as saying:
“While many companies are looking at using a personal wallet in which the individual has control of their digital identity credential, government must serve the whole of citizens, including those who may not be able to accept the control of their identity credential in a digital form.”
The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Attest, Cab Morris elaborated that government issued virtual identities reduce costs and as well as eliminate the risks associated with business. He also mentioned that digital identities provide citizens with enhanced security, privacy, as well as control over their personal data.
