The #BuiltWithBitcoin campaign, spearheaded by peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange Paxful, has managed to touch a new milestone by establishing another school in Rwanda, the second of the lot. The campaign raises donations in just Bitcoins and no form of fiat currency in order to build schools, the target being reaching a target of one hundred schools.
This newly built school is a primary one, and is meant for students only till the age of fourteen years. Paxful will take up the responsibility of giving smartphones and tablets to the students to assist in their education. The curriculum for the school will basically hark back to the principles of classical education (trivium et quadravium) in the hopes of spreading the light of knowledge among the Rwandan children.
As it is driven by BTC donations, the school’s faculty members and the students will be extensively focusing on cryptocurrencies (especially Bitcoin) and blockchain technology as a part of the syllabus. The Government of Rwanda has an extremely positive attitude towards the crypto sector and the spreading of such schools will help gear the students towards a future where fintech is a part and parcel of everyday life. The students are expected to be well aware of how to handle Bitcoins and convert them into the area’s local currency by the time they are done with the curriculum.
The school is equipped with all the basic amenities like electricity and running water, a cafeteria and so on. Its infrastructure includes six classrooms in total with a teacher attending to each of them.Paxful is soldiering on in its attempt to bring modern schools to Rwanda and has even collaborated with ZamZam water to make sure the supply of that essential resource does not elude the students. Ray Youseff, who serves as the CEO of Paxful said:
“We encourage the cryptocurrency sector to contribute more to humanitarian projects. The #BuiltWithBitcoin initiative is an example of bitcoin being used as more than a speculative tool but a testament to the usefulness of cryptocurrency. To date, we have built two schools – a nursery, and a primary school in Rwanda, Africa- and provided scholarships to Afghan refugees, and plan to continue these philanthropic ventures.”
