Akon, The Rapper Creates ‘AKoin’ Cryptocurrency

Grammy winner Akon is all set to launch his own cryptocurrency “AKoin”. According to June 19 report by Page Six, the world famous rapper and singer plans to offer cryptocurrency in two weeks time to help improve conditions in Africa. The Senegalese-American singer, businessman and entrepreneur of Twelve Billboard Top Ten Hits including the famous “Smack That” said that the cryptocurrency will be available for use in 2000 acres of land given to him by President of Senegal and the African city will be called “Akon Crypto City”.

The new Akon City is supposedly going to be a “100% crypto-based city with AKoin at the centre of transactional life, blending leading smart city planning designs with a blank canvas for cryptonizing our daily human and business exchanges towards inventing a radical new way of existence”. The Akon Crypto city is within five miles of the country’s new international airport.

Speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of creativity in France, Akon told the panel that cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology would empower the people in African and offer them a currency that would make them function independently of the government. When Akon was questioned on Blockchain technology in Cannes he adjourned the questions to “the geeks” saying he comes to the table with concepts.

The singer also mentioned his grand ambition of running for US President in the year 2020 imagining a future debate between himself, Donald Trump and Rapper Kanye West. He said he would also invite Trump to a boxing match or a MMA contest.

Akon has successfully co-founded Akon Lighting Africa with Samba Bathily and Thione Niang in 2014 to develop solar power for African villages. According to Akon’s website, the project enables African villages to get affordable and clean source of electricity. Akon Lighting Africa is based in New York City and provides solar power to 14 African countries.
